Protagonistas de los 60. Caminos, esplendores y obstáculos del teatro cubano
Also known as:
Protagonists of the 60s in Cuban Theater
Notes:
Organized by the Cuban Theater Digital Archive and the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami, the Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University, and the theater group La Má Teodora, this is a conference that brings together for the first time in over 40 years Cuba’s most important living playwrights from the 1960s: Antón Arrufat (Cuba), Abelardo Estorino (Cuba), Eduardo Manet (Cuba-France), and Matías Montes Huidobro (Cuba-U.S.A). This event will explore a unique and paradoxical decade in Cuban theater through its living protagonists. Led by designers, Eduardo Arrocha (Cuba) and Jesús Ruiz, and Rafael Mirabal (Cuba-U.S.A.), the morning session will be dedicated to stage and costume design in the 1960s theater movement. The afternoon panels will address theater’s early paths, splendor, and obstacles from the perspective of playwrights who emerged in that period and playwrights who returned to Cuba in 1959 to join the theater movement.
Co-sponsored by the Latin American and Caribbean Center, the Cuban Research Institute, the University of Miami Center for Latin American Studies and the Joseph Carter Memorial Fund in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
