Eduardo Machado
Director, actor, author / playwright, translator
Hailing from Cuba, Eduardo Machado has been cited as one of the leading dramatic voices in his generation of Latino Writers. In 1961, at the age of 9, he and his brother emigrated to the United States where he lived with extended family in Hialeah, Florida, until his parents were able to move to California. Machado's professional acting career began in California, becoming a member of the Screen Actor's Guild at age 20. In 1981 he moved to New York City,teaching playwriting at Columbia University. He was the head of the graduate playwriting program. Now, he teaches at New York University. Machado has directed numerous plays, including his own works and those of emerging writers. He has served as director for shows in numerous regional theaters including INTAR, Theater For a New City, The Ensemble Studio, The Mark Taper Forum, The Playwrights Collective, The Company Theater, The Cherry Lane Alternative, The Flea Theater, The Group Theater and the Inner City Cultural Center. In 2008, he directed "Artfuckers," a play by Michael Domitrovich that explores the culture of celebrity in the contemporary art world.
